The Ballad of The Fears And The Exhaustion
/
Kind of warm up, breaking ice – warming ice. Sometimes I need to make self-portraits, to tell myself how I'm doing, and sometimes it feels like it's worthy to share it.
Warming the ice with exorcisms.

I had found fears. The fear not to know how to draw. To be able to draw only certain hugs.
I start from here: from drawing this again.
/
Sometimes I've been feeling too tired, missing the world that I dream. But I want to keep having visions, and to share them. This is why I'm here. To tell about another world.
I belong to this generation. I found this. We're here to talk about love. That's why we're here.

(The spectrum of emotions that intertwine in my drawings always involves many hearts. Right now, because of this bundle of hours, I want to send my thanks to two people: to Bogdan and to Micheal.)

The Little Story of A Short Ethernal Fear Birth ~ and other shit
This afternoon I faced an organic fork:
I was holding this sorrow Pulp which I grabbed sliding inside myself, she was ready to get bigger, but I took her in time, still benign, I told her to calm down one moment and then I observed her while, patient, she was explaining to me her right to live, resting in my palm.
The fact of being able to make a backward step from the running abyss, a backward step from myself, with all myself, this fact made smile by tenderness; now with the Pulp I can talk in a pretty more diplomatic way, I can even offer her a cup of tea and I explain to her that, to be honest, I'm fine even without her, I have to finish some stuff, I mean, I'm a busy one.
But then she looked at me by that delirious interstice of plea and severity and she convinced me; she remembers me that what we learnt in June, this summer, was to give to the darkness its slice of evacuation, 'cause it belongs as well to the health, to the complementarity, after all.
So I gave heed to her and I made the old good exercise: I ex-pressed myself, I converted the sorrow in value.
This is the drawing I made today:
This is a drawing I made in June:

These are April notes (they don't have too much to do in this post, but they are sweetly capricious):
And this is a detail from tonight,
you better zoom to watch it entirely,
it's called The Little Story of A Short Ethernal Fear Birth
and I consider it a good experimenting object for my next works:

Tattoo design knocks on my door
Dear everybody, there is one thing coming often to me: people want me to design their tattoos.
I would love to also make them physically on the skin, but it would mean a complete new technique to learn and currently I don't feel like adding it to my path; maybe one day. I deeply respect it, so, if I will, I want to do it very seriously.
But still I can design them.
So, after all the requests I received, I figured out I want to tell it "gently loud" on my blog: commissions are open!
Don't hesitate to contact me, if you want my drawing (or my handwriting) on your skin… or if you're a tattoo artist interested in collaboration:
maleta[at]alice[dot]it
And be sure about one thing: if your idea won't fit my style, I'll tell you. I don't tolerate the idea of making a bad work for such an important question. But if I'll see my style or my skills comfortable on your desire, then I'll be glad of participating on your path.

༼༼༼ This is a little detail of my fish flying on my skin ༽༽༽
I'm not posting my entire tattoo to avoid one behaviour I find extremely sad in choosing tattoos: just picking up something online or from the flash book in the tattoo shop: each tattoo has its own story and one thing I want to conserve for sure it will be the unicity of each design I'll made; once one will get a design, I won't let anybody else use the same again.
It's better to wait a long and to think a lot about what you want, it's better if you go to many tattoo artists or many drawers, whatever, maybe you'll find your image with me or anybody else, doesn't matter, but create your own magic symbol, your own special picture: comprehend the ritual.
I believe this should be always respected, unless you intentionally want a collective symbol, which is, by definition, something looking right the same for everybody, or for a certain group of people.
Have a great tattoo bud!

– Don't you see? We can talk with it.
(Pencils and pastels look so similar, but once I push one pastel point on my sheet after using a pencil, with my hand totally immersed in pencil dynamics, and I suddenly experience again such a difference perception of the line I'm leaving on the magic blank, I remember how each of our delicate differences can change so significantly the final reaction.)

Let's go, oh my oh my flying expanded consciousness…
March.
Night time.
I come home with three inner whiskeys, inspired by some jam sessions in my loved Utrecht, I crush on my couch, I open the laptop and a chat pops up.
Enda
This summer I want to stay 15 days in Iceland, I go around and I create. Do you want to share with me THE TRIP?
Take your time to decide.
Eta
People with a common sense would wait to know better what you want to do. Wise people would start to understand better what they want to do. Crazy people would accept immediately.
To which group I shamelessly belong?
Enda
Among the three, definitely the fourth!
Right now I'm at the airport of Amsterdam Schipol and the gate just opened.
///// update: right now I'm at Reykjavik Keflavik waiting for the Enda's plane.
Love,

«Is it finished?»
– Is it finished?
– Perhaps we'll finish it in some years.
This is what I reply to people ask me about the canvas hanged up in my chamber.
Because there is no hurry, there is never hurry.
Those lines and those colours came out during an experiment of collective automatic drawing, which means avoiding the rational attitude and do not plan anything before, following the subconscious.
Trying to walk in balance on the inner line without looking below on the sure rational path is not so easy, especially if one works with someone else and has to ignore the spontaneous desire of predict the someone else's idea. In fact, I'm sure that I didn't respect sufficiently the rules; they, though, have constituted certainly an inspiring territory where to dance.
Me and Felipe Iturrieta started first from a smaller size, painting on a sheet.
Most of the lines that don't form figures are actually automatic enough, probably, but for sure I felt that instead the figures were too conscious, at least I felt myself still to aware.
However, it have been very interesting and funny and also cool as preparation for the canvas, where we likely felt closest to the attitude of automatic drawings.
The canvas is 2 square meters and we didn't paint with big tools or often crossing the whole surface, we used pencils, pastels and average brushes, so our perception was probably like having rows of different sheets, one after the other one, hanged on a wall: most of the time, we were focusing on little spots.
On the canvas we were already freer and first we made something and then, often, we played to trip in it, telling if we were able to recognise any figure. Sometimes, we added a something to complete our found vision.

And you?
What do you see tripping on our automatic drawings?
. . . . … • •☉• • … . . . .
Watching my wall, I still trip in these shapes and lines and colours; thanks to all its parts, I really can go through it as I'm on a railway – and the trip is for sure one my favourite concept and a good reminder of the pleasure and duty of knowledge, which is always a trip. I also like all the emptiness, as a piece of peace for my mind and another lovely reminder for all the route that is waiting for us.
That's what happened during my last birthday and that I adopt as good celebration for what I wish to my life:
• art;
• sharing.
Again : )

The stream is going in a shape
My list of current projects and ideas is always been too long, even before my high school age, I never known a moment in which jump and say "Yahoo, I'm free!". It's a bit frustrating, but I know that it's because I basically care of write down all my interesting ideas, seeing later what I can pick up and develop.
I was enjoying again so much this state of mind in which I fly when I draw in this way and I was thinking that I could fuckin' die of joy if I were one of that old naturalist that were also illustrator – spending the whole life descovering new species of flowers and butterflies and drawing for scientific reasons.
With this thoughts in my mind, I was taking some inspiration for my figures from some photographs on Google. And in that moment the little new green doodle took my attention:
But since the beginning of the year my list crazily grown, riding the new tornado of my inspiration.
Finally the list looks like a life plan – and it's a mess, but one of the best that I ever seen as mine.
Probably I'll often update the blog still with easy sketches and photographs, but really a lot of stuff should come out in the next months, even if I'm not yet ready to tell what's going on.
Meanwhile, I show a little detail of the big illustration that I was doing yesterday night.
I made the sketch of this illustration in the past April and it born in my mind exactly the night from the 1st to the morning of the 2nd of April 2012, one year ago, the day in which I moved from Italy to The Netherlands, definitely the first day of my new consciousness way.
This drawing is very particular to me, for many reasons, included the time that is taking. I usually end an illustration in one working night, sometimes two when the sketch asks more. Instead this illustration wants me lost in the details and in the shading like in the old times. Because of my bunch of stuff to do and obviously also because of what my messages asked to my styles, well, it's a long time that I don't allow myself such a long joy with my pastels, in that old way that literally turns your nervous system to the best meditative state.
With this thoughts in my mind, I was taking some inspiration for my figures from some photographs on Google. And in that moment the little new green doodle took my attention:
Maria Sibylla Merian (2 April 1647 – 13 January 1717) was a German-born Swiss naturalist and scientific illustrator, [...]
Because of her careful observations and documentation of the metamorphosis of the butterfly, she is considered one of the most significant contributors to the field of entomology. [...]
[Wikipedia]
Anyhow, the fish in my new banner (hey, that young fish is a brave traveller, don't you see?, it travels through the consciousness between the time, the space and the changes) is another detail of my illustration… if you're still here and not contemplating the amazing work of Maria Sibylla. But you know that both of them call you back to the same great point of view:
the art of seeing.
So, take a breathe around, now

I evoked the "Fishes of Pleasure" to fly at Goodbye Blue Monday
My lovely fishes from my new sketch are flying to Brodway to enjoy the concert at 11pm of the 20th of April with Heidi Harris, Tea Leigh and Jac, at Goodbye Blue Monday.
If, like me, you can not join them, you can watch the streaming here.
But first try to hitchhike with my flying fishes, they're pretty generous!

A Psychedelic Rise
About the end of December, a exaggerated hug made me fall, beating my head on the ground. In this way, some of the fish that live in my skull have found their small opening to fly away. My consciousness is spread in all the flying fish and now the fish are spread around, so part of my consciousness is now spread as well, flew somewhere.
That evening, my last rise started to help me during the bridge from the past year to the new one, with the wise company of a Psychedelic Knight.
I tried to draw some memories of that bundle of dawns.

The words are from Mayla, song by Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeroes.
I also tried – again but never enough – to show this Psychedelic Knight, who has eyes that are doors for any flight, port for any flow.

Tributes to The Rhythm
I started this illustration the 21th of September 2012, to say Welcome to the Autumn, as tribute of the Flying Fishes for the Fox (thank you for your wise patience), the Jackalope, the Unicorn of the Blue Star (we're waiting for you, girl).

Totems Tributing The Circannual Rhythm
When I was still sketching, the day was running out and I followed my call from the little forest here around the town where I cycle, Utrecht. That time I didn't found the forest and the day after my mission became to let fly a lantern: that's how this drawing started to wait on my table. I deduced that the Earth Rhythm that I was trying to celebrate was still far from my own rhythm (if I have one). But the End of a Year is much stronger and now I'm driving a shining horse that is finally letting me dance between my visions; finishing this Tribute and happily going between many works. Some of these new images are already part of this post – this appointment with the Thought – and something else has to wait a bit on my desk (but not too much, I wish).
So the next ring of the chain that I'd like to donate you is the short pilgrimage that I made with my dear friend John, going in Copenaghen to visit the Unicorn of the Blue Star and the Jackalope. It happened in November, still in Autumn.
I took these photographs in a special place that you can find in the Danish capital: the free town of Christiania.
The third and last ring is the homage to JulJackalope's and it's a fruit of tonight.
(Ah, Giulia, se ti tagli i capelli ti strappo la faccia, sappilo).
